AT THE CUTTING WEDGE OF FASHION
The grand resurgence of wedge sandals — offering both comfort and style — begs the question: Is it time to bring our old platform heels out from the closet?
Once fallen out of style, wedge heels are now having a moment in fashion. And bringing back this trend was the creative director of Chloé, Chemena Kamali, who had all her front row ladies sporting uber-chic wedges while attending her show at the recently concluded Paris Fashion Week.
Seen in these high-heeled wedge sandals in the front row were actor Sienna Miller, models Georgia May Jagger and Pat Cleveland with her daughter Anna, and more — all in classic wedge shoes that exuded a ’70s vibe.
BACK WITH A BANG
Designer Siddhartha Bansal weighs in, “Wedges were a hit during the late noughties, and the recent show at Chloe has proved that there is going to be a massive resurgence of the design.”
Wedges or wedgies have raised shoe heels, where the heel and sole form a solid block. The design dates back to ancient Greece, when theatre actors used to wear these for stability and height. Later, these block heels went on to become a symbol of wealth and status.
Decoding their resurgence, designer Rina Dhaka explains, “Wedges are known to provide more support and comfort as compared to high heels, and women of all age group now prefer comfort over style.”
STYLE IT RIGHT
Designer Anvita Sharma offers tips on how you can put your best foot forward:
If you are in wedges, you would want to show them off by pairing them with a side-slit dress, midis or mini skirts. Pick wedges according to the occasion. For a more formal event, you can pick one with higher heels.
