‘Would’ve cracked all auditions if I was getting roles because of followers’

ately, the casting of influencers in projects has been a big talking point among industry insiders and audiences. A prevalent assumption underlies these discussions — that influencers are hired because of their social media followers, not their acting chops. But, content creator-actor Prajakta Koli begs to differ.
“If this was true, I would have cracked every audition that I’ve given till date,” says Koli, who recently lent her voice to the global multimedia project, She Creates Change, along with actors Freida Pinto, Charithra Chandran and Quyen Ngo.
While the Jugjugg Jeeyo (2022) actor asserts that there is “no truth to this perception about influencers”, she tries not to get bothered by what people think. “People can say what they want. I don’t want to do anything to change that because I know what I am doing and why,” the 30-year-old — with nearly 9M followers on Instagram — says, adding, “That’s because I am doing the work that I love, and I am getting to do that because I am obsessively testing for it.”
For now, Koli’s priorities are simple: to focus on her work and drive socially relevant conversations through that. Her latest project, She Creates Change, is a step in that direction, as it touches upon topics such as gender equality, climate justice, financial literacy, food insecurity and menstruation. “It addresses important issues, and that is the need of the hour,” Koli ends.
