COLLEGE FEST HYPE: NON-STUDENTS CROWD CAMPUS #htcity@campus
To catch their fave singer live or to relive college life, youngsters are sneaking into college fests. Here’s why
Be it to indulge in some college time masti or to relive #CampusKeDin one final time, there’s no stopping the fervour of alumni and even some young professionals from attending the college fests.
Although registration for the fest and a valid student college ID is a requirement, these youngsters are pulling out all sorts of jugaads to join the fest.
PURANI JEANS, DOST
Not everyone graduates on the same day. For youngsters who are studying three-year non-technical courses, their college life ends a year before their peers who are enrolled in four-year courses. One among them is Poonam, an alumna of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) and a BBA graduate from the 2023 batch. “I was a core team member of the fest’s organisation committee last year. Since it was my final year, I had too many responsibilities and couldn’t let my hair down,” she shares, adding, “But this time, it felt like my own final year got extended too.”
MAKING UP FOR THE PANDEMIC PAUSE
Covid-19 led to the cancellation of many fests, cutting short the college experience for many students over three years. To make up for this lost time, some alumni are headed back to their alma mater for some more masti. “I was part of the unfortunate Covid batch and didn’t get to witness a single fest,” shares Shreya Malik, a graduate in BSc (Hons) Biochemistry, from Shivaji College (batch of 2022). She continues, “I just had to witness the college fest myself, at least once. So I spoke to my juniors, and they helped me secure an entry via my old college ID.”
FRONT ROW SEATS FOR THE FAVES
It’s not nostalgia but also the love for a particular artist that’s bringing a few back to relive their college days. One among these is Kunal Punyani, who graduated from School of Open Learning (SOL) in 2021 with a BA (Prog) degree. At the recent fest of Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT), he successfully secured a seat at the concert where singer Raftaar was performing. Talking about the thrilling experience, he says. “I am in an admin job and took a half day off to catch Raftaar’s performance. Waise kahan hi dekhne milta hai? Though, the campus was very crowded, but it was amazing and totally worth my taking a leave from office.”
