The worst of online bullying came for actor Aishwarya Sharma recently, as a troll wished death upon her in a reply to an Instagram Story of hers. In response, Sharma wrote in another Story, “You may curse me, God bless you”.

“I face this almost everyday.

I did not say or do anything wrong, so I wasn’t expecting such a comment,” she says, before going on to recall the Insta Story that the troll had reacted to. “My fans keep sending chocolates, flowers and many other things, so I just told them, ‘Don’t send us so many gifts’. I don’t want them to spend so much money on us for no reason,” the Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi and Bigg Boss 17 contestant tells us, adding that the troll accused her of copying someone else. “Meri jagah koi bhi actor ho toh woh yahi bolega. I don’t know why one has to face such things.” she laments.

Such experiences invariably take a heavy toll on mental health, and even though the 31-year-old doesn’t let it affect her peace that much anymore, she says, “I do wonder, ‘Maine aisa kya kar diya ki yeh chahta hai main mar jaaun?’ I feel such people often abuse and bully and later come out saying, ‘No one talks about mental health’ after someone dies by suicide. They should be told, ‘Aapko bolne ka right nahin hai!’”

Even if calling trolls out on social media isn’t a permanent fix, it is important to take a stand sometimes, feels Sharma. “People think actors have a glamorous life throughout but no one sees the struggle behind. You have to take a stand for yourself. People should know that aise bhi log exist karte hain,” she wraps up.
