Pankit Thakker: I am perplexed to see Elvish Yadav’s social media influence

The support seems virtual and likely fake. These days, views and followers can be easily bought.

Looking at the twists and turns in YouTuber Elvish Yadav’s case, actor Pankit Thakker can’t help but wonder why the former is a social media sensation. Yadav, who was arrested on March 17 in connection with his alleged involvement in a snake venom case, was granted bail yesterday. Meanwhile, his parents, Ram Avtar Yadav and Sushma Yadav, dismissed reports about their son’s supposed wealth, stating that neither he has a house in Dubai nor does he own the luxury cars featured in his vlogs. All this has also made Thakker, who has seen Yadav’s rise a content creator, question whether he used to fake his following as well.

“I am perplexed as to why he receives so much support. The support seems virtual and likely fake. These days, views and followers can be easily bought,” shares the actor, adding, “[But] are we, the public, being taken for fools? Moreover, his parents claim that Elvish had been harassed for years, and that Maxtern (content creator) insulted him over the phone. Why didn’t they involve the police back then?”

Here, Thakker also shows his support for MP-activist Maneka Gandhi, who had appealed for Yadav’s arrest in November last year for abusing animals. “If Maneka Gandhi is blaming him, I stand by her. She has dedicated herself to serving wildlife. She has not gained fame through frivolous social media posts, creating controversies, or participating in reality shows,” he ends.
