COLOUR ME HAPPY
With Holi around the corner, musicians talk to Soumya Vajpayee about a song that fills their hearts with joy, love and the festive spirit
Prakriti Kakar
Rangisari from Jugjugg Jeeyo (2022) by Kavita Seth and Kanishk Seth (singers) is a beautiful song and has such an authentic, traditional and celebratory vibe to it. I love the beats and it’s a perfect song to start your Holi morning!

I really enjoy Do Me A Favour Let’s Play Holi (Waqt: The Race Against Time, 2005) by (composer) Anu Malik ji and (singer) Sunidhi Chauhan. It’s a different approach to Holi kyunki zyadatar traditional gaane hi bante hain. There’s an inexplicable kind of humour in the hook. I enjoy its quirkiness.
Sonu Nigam
I love Satrangi Re from Dil Se.. (1998) and there are myriad reasons for that. It’s one of the most beautiful songs ever made or written. Also, it’s among my initial bests. The way it was choreographed by Farah (Khan Kunder, choreographer and filmmaker) and performed by Shah Rukh (Khan, actor) and Manisha (Koirala, actor), make it incredible.
Kailash Kher
When the colours of bhakti mix with our traditional festivities, it only makes the joy grow manifold. My devotional song Manmohan Salone Rang is really close to my heart as it fills me with colours of joy and devotion. I feel connected with it on a very deep level.
Sheykhar Ravjiani
I really enjoy my 2021 single Rang. It’s a deeply romantic song that, for me, brings alive the sheer spectrum and rainbow of emotions that anyone in love feels. There’s no better way to celebrate the beautiful colours of love and the happiness it brings than through this song.
Sukriti Kakar
It’s my song Kar Gayi Chull (Kapoor & Sons, 2016). I remember dancing to it on a Holi party and celebrating it together with my family and friends. It brings back a very special feeling every time I hear it. It’s always on my Holi party playlist.

Nainon Mein Badra Chhaye from Mera Saaya (1966) fills me with so many emotions. Every time I listen to it, it feels magical. Madan Mohan (late composer) and Lata Mangeshkar (late singer) are my favourite duo.
