The end-semester and the internal examinations for Delhi University students are around the corner. But maintaining focus and studying hard when alone are concerns often spoken about. And some youngsters seem to have found an answer — virtual study rooms.

“Why find motivation outdoors, to beat the stress of studying when I can use technology to my advantage,” says Anusha Malhotra, a finalyear student of BA (Hons) Journalism at Lady Shri Ram College for Women, adding, “When the pandemic hit, I was in my first-year and it was the first time that I took to online studying. After a point it became overwhelming to sit all day long in front of the laptop. But now, I have recently rediscovered how fruitful it is for me to study in virtual rooms, where I can see others, too, engaged in studying with full focus. Ever since I discovered the free websites that allow this method of studying, it has become so much easier for me to fulfil my target study hours.”

The concept of virtual study rooms might appear the same as group-based online studies or live YouTube streaming, but there’s a difference. “One has to just log in to any of the available website, and you see so many students studying in their rooms,” Yash Ahuja, a second-year student at School of Open Learning (SOL). Ahuja shares how he used the platform of these virtual study rooms during the pandemic, and now it helps him keep his Chartered Accountancy (CA) prep on track. “I feel fresh and energised whenever I study in a focus room, and with my exams approaching, it acts as a push for me to complete daily study goals,” he says.

Some are also making new study buddies by logging in with their profiles. “I certainly feel less lonely when I see people my age from around the world, engrossed in their studies whenever I log in. What matters most is to be able to have moral support while we give our blood and sweat to our exam prep,” shares Nitin Anand Choubey, a first-year student of BA (Hons) Psychology at Aryabhatta College. He adds, “With strict assignments deadlines and in between fests, I’m barely getting enough time to visit the library. These study rooms have turned into my 24X7 library and guess what, I don’t even have to pay anything to access them!”
