Young man dies after riding a water slide in Noida
The news of the death of Dhananjay Maheshwari, a 24-year-old resident of Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar — after riding a slide at a Noida-based water park — has left everyone in a state of shock.
Maheshwari, who worked with his father at their family’s cable business, went to the water park on April 7 with his friends. After taking a few rides, he took one slide and started feeling breathless. He sat down to rest, but his condition worsened, and his friends called the staff, who arranged medical help. He was taken to Kailash Hospital in Noida, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Manish Kumar Mishra, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida Police, informs, “We have ruled out drowning and any external injury after the autopsy, however, the exact cause of death remains unclear.”
Dhananjay’s father, Sanjay Maheshwari, told us, “I blame the management of the water park. My son was fit. He was a national-level cricketer and would go running every day... If only he had received treatment timely, he would have been with us.”
Virender Tyagi, head of security at TGIP Mall and Gardens Galleria, says, “When our staffer found him, Dhananjay said his stomach was hurting and was advised to come to the medical room. But he refused, and said he wanted to lie at the spot only. When the doctor checked Dhananjay’s pulse, he advised him to be shifted to the hospital. We always have an ambulance, doctor and technician readily available in case of emergencies, and Dhananjay was transported to the hospital. We gave him the best possible facilities.”
Those with a heart issue don’t need to avoid water or amusement parks, but must stay under supervision. Also, such facilities must have trained staff and defibrillators for emergency cases.
