When pop singer Ed Sheeran came to India for his music tour last month, he professed his love for Indian music, with a special mention of King’s Maan Meri Jaan. In fact, Sheeran also took out the time to meet King. The duo also shared a snap together on social media.
Opening up about meeting Sheeran for the first time, King tells us, “More than [talking about] collaborating, we connected on a personal level. He is like a brother, and the things we discussed show how similar we are, in terms of what matters to us in life.”
While the meeting raised fans’ expectations of a collaboration between the two, the singer hints that such a project will take some time. “Whenever we collaborate, it would come from a place of pure intent,” he shares.
Meanwhile, King has made a name for himself by pairing up with global icons such as singer Nick Jonas. Talking about these creative partnerships, King says, “My motivation stems from providing fresh music to the audience and staying up-to-date with the latest global trends. Each collab I have undertaken, or am currently working on, is different from the other.”
Partnering with other artistes also suggests a willingness to experiment with different genres. We ask him how important is this versatility for him, and he replies, “Genre versatility is my thing. Although it is not necessary, it’s good to have versatility in music,” he shares, adding, “I wanted to explore music beyond my heritage and boundaries.”
Talking about his latest collab with DJ KSHMR and singer Zaeden for Aawara, King says, “For this particular song, the most enjoyable part was the individuality that each artist brought to the collaboration,” adding, “Working with others allows you to combine your unique artistic talents to create something truly special for the audience.”
