Of going to be the future Indian market is Meduza Mattia Vitale of the music world:
Working on an electric dance version of the 2002 hit song Dola Re Dola from the movie Devdas turned out to be a window to Indian music for Italian electronic music group Meduza. While recreating the hit, composed by Ismail Darbar, group member Mattia Vitale admits to having realised how Indian music will soon have a greater impact on the music industry across the globe.
For their Dola Re Dola cover, they collaborated with singer Varun Jain, and for Meduza, it was “something very different” than what they had done before. “When we had a discussion with our label about doing something for the market in India, they suggested the song to us. We knew it was a popular track, and it was inspiring for us to work on something that was big in another country. Now, after getting the feedback that people loved it, it is a great feeling,” shares Vitale.
Talking about the growth potential of Indian music, he shares, “The Indian market is going to be the future of the music world. They will have a great impact on the music industry in the world in the next 10–20 years,” adding, “They have specific sounds from the culture incorporated in their music. I’m proud to be among the first few international artistes to work on something from India.”
Meduza, consisting of three members: Luca de Gregorio, Mattia Vitale and Simone Giani, are best known for their 2019 breakthrough song, Piece of Your Heart. After Dola Re Dola, they are eager to tap into more talent from the country. “We are planning to come to the country for a performance soon; we will use that time to discover new artistes,” Vitale ends.
