Summer can be tough when the temperatures cross 40°C and the heatwave threatens to weaken immunity and put you at risk of many heat-related illnesses, such as heatstroke and dehydration. However, seasonal fruits, such as amla (Indian gooseberry), can help you stay cool.

Considered one of the most powerful fruits in Ayurveda, amla has immunity-boosting and digestive properties. It has a high amount of fibre, vitamins and antioxidants that can help you reap a variety of health benefits, from lowering cholesterol to improving eye health and aiding weight loss. Moreover, in summer, amla can help keep the body naturally cool, preventing heatstroke and other summer illnesses.

Dietitian Sushma PS shares unique and healthy ways, which can also boost your immunity, to have amla.

Amla juice with mint: This juice not only helps cool down your body but also keeps your immunity against diseases high. To make this cool beverage, blend amla with water and mint leaves. Amla smoothie: For a flavourful and nutrient-rich breakfast, you can use amla in your smoothie. Just blend yoghurt, banana, spinach and amla together to create a smooth and nourishing smoothie.

Salad with amla: This dish can boost hydration. To make amla salad, combine chopped amla, cucumbers, apple and anar. Amla popsicles: A frozen treat made with natural ingredients. Freeze amla juice with pieces of your favourite fruits in moulds. De-mould and have whenever you crave a dessert.

Amla chia juice: Chia seeds encourage fullness and are rich in fibre, in addition to the goodness of amla. Just soak chia seeds in amla juice for one hour, then chill.

Amla sorbet: This tart dessert facilitates digestion. Just blend frozen amla puree, honey and a little lemon juice to make amla sorbet.

Amla yoghurt dip: A low-calorie snack with some fresh vegetables. To make dip, combine amla powder and Greek yoghurt, then add spices per your liking.

Amla iced tea: This is a hydrating swap for sugary, cool beverages. To make this drink, brew amla tea with mint leaves and honey, and then chill it.

IN SUMMER, AMLA CAN HELP KEEP THE BODY NATURALLY COOL, PREVENTING HEATSTROKE AND OTHER SUMMER ILLNESSES. IT ALSO AIDS WEIGHT LOSS, LOWERS CHOLESTEROL AND IMPROVES EYE HEALTH
