‘Emotional’ with all the love, says viral Delhi 10-year-old

Actors Sonu Sood, Arjun Kapoor and industrialist Anand Mahindra, among a horde of prominent faces, have come forward for Jaspreet Singh. The 10-year-old Delhi boy runs a food cart in Tilak Nagar, to support his family after the death of his father and the disappearance of his mother.

Jaspreet’s plight was brought to light after a video shared by food blogger Sarabjeet Singh (@mrsingh foodhunter) went viral (with 10.7M views) last week. Now, Mahindra and Kapoor have offered to sponsor his studies. “Humne help maangi nahin, phir bhi mil rahi hai. I am so emotional to see the love,” says the Chander Vihar resident, who manages the cart with help from cousin Gurmukh, 19.

“Anand Mahindra has sponsored Jaspreet and his sister’s education,” says Gurmukh, who also handles his social media, adding, “BJP leader Rajiv Babbar has offered to sponsor my sister’s (Jaspreet’s cousin) education.

We would like Arjun ji to instead support his daily livelihood.”

The social media attention has helped increase their earnings. “We’ve gone from earning ₹400 a day to around ₹8,000 a day,” says Gurmukh.

Jaspreet’s own aspirations for his future aren’t limited to running this cart. “I want to become a police officer. Lekin yeh cart kabhi band nahin hoga,” he concludes.
