LUDHIANA: In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old youth was allegedly stabbed to death by a vegetable vendor's son in Thakkarwal village on Thursday.

The accused, Harpreet Singh, allegedly killed Krishan Singh following a scuffle over a minor incident. The victim's brother, Sandeep Singh, was also present.

The Sadar police have registered a case against Harpreet Singh, following the complaint lodged by Sandeep Singh.

The deceased was a student of Class 9 of Government Senior Secondary School of Daad village.

His father, Chamkaur Singh, is a labourer. The family stays in the same village.

According to Sandeep Singh, the incident took place when Krishan Singh had gone to Gurdwara Sahib to take bath in the sarovar (holy pond) on Thursday afternoon.

As he jumped into the sarovar, water splashed out thereby drenching Harpreet Singh. Harpreet allegedly abused Krishan, following which they entered into a scuffle. The incident took an ugly turn when the duo started exchanging heated words, said Sandeep Singh.

Harpreet went out of the shrine and came back with a knife from the makeshift shop of vegetables owned by his father, Gurnam Singh, he added. Harpreet allegedly stabbed Krishan Singh with the knife and fled the spot.

Sandeep Singh rushed Krishan to a hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way. SI Harinder Singh, SHO of the Sadar police station, said they were conducting raids to arrest the accused.
