A 23-year-old man was found murdered on the roadside at National Highway-1 (Jalandhar bypass) on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Ankush, a resident of Amarpura. He had left his house on Wednesday evening.

The body was found battered and naked, with the clothes flung far away from the body and the right leg missing.

The Laddowal police have registered a case.

Daljit Kaur, the mother of the deceased, alleged that some of their neighbours had threatened the family and suspected that they had killed her son.

Ankush was working as a salesman with a company that deals in tea. He left his house on Wednesday evening, saying he would be back by the next morning.

His mother said at 7am on Thursday, policemen came to her house and asked the family to identify a dead body that had been found on NH-1. The family identified the deceased as Ankush.

“His motorcycle was found far from the body in a wrecked condition. His body was full of wounds and it seemed he had been assaulted with sharp-edged weapons,” she added.

Gurprit Singh Walia, ACP (rural), said, “We have found pieces of a number plate of a four-wheeler. It may be the case that he was hit by some vehicle. But we are investigating the case.”
