A pro­fes­sor from Guru An­gad Dev Ve­teri­nary and An­i­mal Sci­ences Univer­sity ( GADVASU), Lud­hi­ana, has been joined as the 'fel­low' of In­dian As­so­ci­a­tion for the Ad­vance­ment of Ve­teri­nary Re­search (IAAVR).

" Dr Cha­ran Ka­mal Singh has been awarded the IAAVR fel­low­ship along with Dr Gaya Prasad, as­sis­tant di­rec­tor gen­eral ( an­i­mal health), ICAR, New Delhi, for the year 2012," said an of­fi­cial state­ment re­leased by the univer­sity on Thurs­day.

The na­tional fel­low­ship of IAAVR is pres­ti­gious and is awarded on the ba­sis of com­pet­i­tive score card, where sci­en­tists hav­ing ex­cel­lent pro­fes­sional achieve­ments at na­tional and in­ter­na­tional level to their credit are awarded.

"Since IAAVR is a multi-dis­ci­plinary or­gan­i­sa­tion, sci­en­tists from var­i­ous de­part­ments com­pete for the fel­low­ship at the na­tional level," it added.

Dr Singh, who is a noted ex­pert in the field of ra­bies, has ear­lier been the fel­low of the Academy of Sci­ences for An­i­mal Wel­fare.

At the in­ter­na­tional level, Singh was nom­i­nated mem­ber of task force for the World Health Or­gan­i­sa­tion for sur­veil­lance of ra­bies in Asia.
