FOPSIA FOR INQUIRY INTO BOGUS BILLING SCAM
Federation of Punjab Small Industries Associations ( FOPSIA) claimed that the home ministry will soon initiate a CBI enquiry into the bogus bill scam against Punjab’s excise and taxation department.
According to FOPSIA, some fake companies issued bogus bills of over Rs 20,000 crore from 2009 to 2010.
The department was responsible to monitor the working of these companies as all companies were filing online returns to the department.
The notices were issued to thousands of traders and industrialists.
Their VAT refund claims were disallowed and criminal cases were filed against a few of those traders just to deceive people.
President FOPSIA Badish K Jindal said, “FOPSIA had filed a grievance petition against the state excise and taxation department to unearth the scam. After considering the facts the home ministry had issued a preliminary enquiry in this regard. The excise and taxation department has further sought information and demanded facts about the issue and FOPSIA is collecting the data in this regard.”
