CENTRAL TELEGRAPH ACT TO BE AMENDED: DGP SHASHI KANT
The DGP (prison) said many cases have been reported when mobile phones from jail inmates have been confiscated from inmates.
However, the agony is that there is no provision in the Central Telegraph Act to book an inmate for keeping a mobile phone.
“We have sent tentative amendments to the Centre. The Centre has raised some queries in the amendments and we are working on it,” he said.
He said the department had also applied to the secretary, securities, to install mobile jammers in jails.
“We have got the permission to install mobile jammers at maximum-security jail, Nabha and Sangrur,” he added.
