IPL FEVER STRIKES JAIL IN­MATES

IPL fever struck the four walls of Ropar jail, on the con­clud­ing day of the sports meet of pris­on­ers. A T-20 cricket match was played be­tween the team of pris­on­ers of Lud­hi­ana cen­tral jail and pris­on­ers of Ropar jail, in which the Lud­hi­ana cen­tral jail in­mates reg­is­tered an easy vic­tory.

Pris­on­ers of Lud­hi­ana jail set a tar­get of 120 at the loss of 5 wick­ets in 20 overs. The Ropar in­mates scat­tered at a to­tal of 42 runs and lost the match by 78 runs.

On Sun­day, teams of pris­on­ers of Lud­hi­ana cen­tral jail, Borstal Jail Lud­hi­ana and Ropar jail par­tic­i­pated in var­i­ous games. Apart from cricket, vol­ley­ball, tug-of-war, bad­minton and ath­letic matches were played among the pris­on­ers.

RK Loomba, se­nior su­per­in­ten­dent, Lud­hi­ana cen­tral jail ap­pre­ci­ated the ef­forts made by the pris­on­ers.

He said that the gov­ern­ment and depart­ment have ini­ti­ated this step to pro­mote sports ac­tiv­i­ties among the pris­on­ers, so that they leave their habit to con­sume drugs.
