BJP workers’ celebrations turn nightmare for commuters

Residents plying on the Ferozepur road had a rough ride as BJP supporters had organised a function to welcome Kamal Sharma, who was recently appointed as political secretary to the chief minister

Residents of the city, who visited areas close to MBD mall on the Ferozepur road, had to face a rough time on Wednesday morning as hundreds of vehicles were parked on the main road by BJP workers to welcome Kamal Sharma, who was recently appointed as political secretary to the chief minister.

Commuters plying on the Ferozepur road faced a lot of hardships from KC Marbles, where the function was organised, up to Jagraon Bridge in the city. More than 100 vehicles accompanied Sharma, who was scheduled to go to Chandigarh to assume the office.

Sharma, who is also the general secretary of the BJP, had come to the city to attend the function organised by the BJP workers and district leaders. Leaders and workers of the BJP wanted to congratulate Sharma on his appointment as the political secretary to the Punjab CM.

However, celebrations turned out to be a nightmare for commuters, who had to wait at various points because of traffic jams.

Sharma’s cavalcade was halted at many places where the party workers were waiting for him with a garland. This made the ride for common people more difficult.

Gagandeep Singh, who got stuck in the traffic jam, said he was supposed to reach his office at 12 noon, but due to the traffic jam, he would not be able to reach his office on time. Politicians did not care about common people, he added.

Meanwhile, Sharma, who has been appointed as the political secretary to the CM, apparently to smoothen the relations between the SAD and BJP, said he had been entrusted with a very important responsibility.

“I will ensure that the relations between both the parties are strengthened to a great extent,” Sharma added.

He said he would not let down the workers and leaders of the

BJP, who have shown trust in him.

“CM Parkash Singh Badal had shown trust in me and I will try to fulfill the aspirations of the government,” he said.

Satpal Gosain, former health minister of Punjab, who was also present during the function, said Sharma had always been a great leader of the party and this was the reason that he has been entrusted with such a big responsibility.

Gosain said Sharma was always accessible to the common people and party workers.

A BJP leader, on the condition of anonymity, said this was the love of the workers that they came in such a large number to welcome their leader. These events do not take place on daily basis so terming the celebrations as harassment to the general public would not be right.
