Traders come out in support of Powercom chief
Facing acute power shortage, the industry has started to realise that criticising the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) cannot solve the purpose and they will have to wait till the production is increased.
Inderjit Singh Pardhan, chairman, Small Scale Industry Development Board (SSIBD), Punjab, said KD Chaudhary CMD, PSPCL, wasd a renowned engineer and had been holding the key position in Powercom since 2010.
Coming out in his support, he said Chaudhary deserves compliments for effectively handling power woes. He is managing the affairs of Powercom in a smooth, effective and transparent manner and has brought much-needed improvement in power generation.
“Chaudhary has been making all-out efforts to provide relief from load shedding and erratic power supply, especially to the MSME industry,” he added.
Badish Jindal, president of the Federation of Punjab Small Industry Associations, said, “Industry needs uninterrupted power and we have been facing acute shortage. We have to bear power cuts that are three to four hours long apart from scheduled cuts. PSPCL has our security deposits, therefore they should ensure us a committed supply.”

ent power crisis, northern grid was to be blamed. “The PSPCL has adequate resources to arrange additional power, but due to transmission constraints imposed by NRLDC, it is helpless to meet the total load demand in the state. Sharp increase in the demand of electricity due to late arrival of monsoon in Punjab is also responsible for the present power crisis,” he added.
Pardhan has urged chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to set up a high-level committee for impartial probe into the reported baseless acts of omission and commission being leveled against Chaudhary.
Charanjeet Singh Vishkarma, president, Vishkarma MD Industries, said the main cause of power problem was shortage and they could not merely blame the PSPCL. “We all know that there is shortage of power and PSPCL can’t generate extra power. Now, they just supply power to the sector which makes more hue and cry than other.”
