‘Bookie’ does the disappearing act, with help of technology
A technology-savvy man gave the cops the slip late Friday night after he saw a police team entering his house on the screen of a close-circuit camera installed at the main gate of his house.
The police had raided the house of Jaspreet Singh (35) in Urban Estate Phase-1, Dugri, following a tip-off that he was accepting bets on the match between India and Australia. “We carried out a raid. But he had escaped,” Dugri police station house officer (SHO) Satwinder Singh said.
The police have recovered five mobile phones, a laptop, close-circuit television (CCTV) system, Rs 11,000 in cash and a car from the. “We have registered a case under the Gambling Act,” he said.
Jaspreet is a property dealer by profession. But, according to the police, he used to accept bets on cricket matches at the ground floor of his house. “It seemed he was prepared for the raid,” the SHO added.
“He had installed CCTVs at the main gate of his house and escaped form the backdoor.,” the SHO said, adding that the accused managed to flee much before the police gained access to his house.
