The World Health Organisation (WHO) declaring Ludhiana as the fourth most polluted city in the world in September 2011 has had little effect on the industry or city administration. In its report, the WHO had categorically said the city had the highest particulate pollution in the air. Emissions from industries, outdated autorickshaws/vans, construction of roads/flyovers, and burning of field stubble and waste material, are the major contributors to air pollution.
