350 farm­ers, farm­women at­tend train­ing camp at PAU

A monthly train­ing camp for mem­bers of Pun­jab Agri­cul­tural Univer­sity ( PAU) Kisan Club was held on Thurs­day.

About 350 farm­ers and farm­women from across the state par­tic­i­pated in the camp.

Pres­i­dent of the club PPS Pangli de­lib­er­ated on mar­ket­ing of farm pro­duce with thrust on in­ter­na­tional de­mand for bas­mati. He lauded farm­ers for act­ing as PAU am­bas­sadors in dif­fer­ent vil­lages of Pun­jab un­der the “PAU Doots” con­cept for quick dis­sem­i­na­tion of farm tech­nolo­gies.

High­light­ing the ac­tiv­i­ties of the club pro­gramme co­or­di­na­tor TS Riar laid em­pha­sis on co­op­er­a­tive mar­ket­ing and strength­en­ing farmer-sci­en­tist link­age for agri­cul­tural devel­op­ment.

Earl i e r, Am­rinder S Poo­nia, sec­re­tary of the club, wel­comed agri­cul­tur­al­ex­perts and club mem­bers. Co­or­di­na­tor of the ladies wing of the club Rupin­der Kaur pro­posed the vote of thanks.

Mean­while, state- level train­ing- cum-work­shop for mem­bers of Pro­gres­sive Bee­keep­ers As­so­ci­a­tion ( PBKA) was also or­gan­ised in which nearly 75 bee­keep­ers par­tic­i­pated.

Pres­i­dent PBKA, S Sar­wan Singh, high­lighted the vi­tal role played by PAU in mak­ing Pun­jab emerge as a leader in bee­keep­ing.

Dur­ing the pro­grammes, farm ex­perts de­liv­ered lec­tures on nu­tri­tional im­por­tance of fer­mented prod­ucts, cul­ti­va­tion of sum­mer pulses, cul­ti­va­tion of sum­mer veg­etable crops, post-har­vest han­dling of gar­lic and onion, poul­try farm­ing, qual­ity honey pro­duc­tion and role of birds in agri­cul­tur­alde­vel­op­ment.

Pun­jab Agri­cul­tura l Univer­sity ex­perts also im­parted mar­ket­ing tips for honey prod­ucts and gave live demon­stra­tions on prepa­ra­tion of fer­mented prod­ucts such as curd, drinks, and snacks.
