Modi launches, lays foundation of rly projects worth over ₹85k-cr
JAIPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated railway projects worth more than ₹85,000 crore in Rajasthan.
Modi gave a green signal to extension of Ajmer-Delhi-Kent Vande Bharat Express train to Chandigarh, inaugurated doubling of Kuchaman City-Nawan City and Phulera Govindi Marwar railway sections, modernisation work of Jodhpur factory, laid foundation stone for construction of train maintenance depot in Jaisalmer, inaugurated One Station One Product stalls, Gati Shakti cargo terminal and goods shed; and Prime Minister Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra at Bhagat Ki Kothi station.
Addressing the event, the PM said, Indian Railways is playing an important role in realising the resolve of a developed India.
The vehicle of development of the country is running at a fast pace on the railway track. He said that the transformation of railways in the last 10 years is the guarantee of a developed India.
Modi said, the development of railways is the top priority of the Central government. “Our government has included the railway budget in the Union budget, due to which the average budget of the railways has increased by six times and railways will be completely rejuvenated in the next five years,” he added.
The prime minister said, before 2014, more than 10,000 railway gates across the country were unmanned.
Only 35% of railway lines had been electrified and there were long queues even for train ticket reservation.
He continued that the doubling of railway lines was not the priority of the previous governments. However, the ruling BJP has shown the strong will required to bring the railways out of such a situation.
Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said, “Since 2014, under the leadership of Modi, Indian Railways has made unprecedented progress in freight traffic, freight revenue, introduction of new Vande Bharat train, capital expenditure, station redevelopment, armour protection system, laying of tracks and electrification.”
