TRAI moots cap on prelaunch subscribers
The TRAI has recommended rules of network testing before an operator commercially launches mobile services. The telecom regulator has
prescribed a limit of 90 days on the test phase involving test subscribers. If the telecom service provider fails to conclude network testing due to valid reasons, it may seek additional time from the
licensor for testing the network. The sector regulator has also proposed capping number of test subscribers to 5 per cent of installed network capacity for a telecom circle. The new rules have come in the wake of strong opposition from incumbent players over Reliance Jio's large number of subscribers during its testing period.
