Tower sales to cut telcos' Rs 90,000-cr debt
The telecom industry could pare as much as Rs 90,000 crore of debt if the stake sale deals of mobile tower assets currently being discussed materialise, ICRA has said. The credit rating agency has projected that the tower industry may undergo structural and material changes in the medium term. With around 4 lakh towers and 8 lakh tenancies, the telecom tower segment is a sizeable one in the world, it adds. ICRA points out that one of the key developments in the tower industry will be a change in ownership from telecom operators to independent players.
