CIL de­fers out­put tar­get by 2 years

Coal In­dia (CIL) has pushed back its am­bi­tious 1 bil­lion tonnes (bt) of pro­duc­tion tar­get by at least two years, ow­ing to the ex­ist­ing ground re­al­i­ties. The gov­ern­ment had ear­lier set the tar­get of 1 bt coal out­put by 2019-20. CIL has been in­vest­ing to­wards es­tab­lish­ing rail­way con­nec­tiv­ity with its mines and procur­ing rakes in order to evac­u­ate more coal. How­ever, a sharp rise in re­new­able en­ergy sources is com­pelling the world's largest miner to re­view its ear­lier pro­duc­tion goals.
