CIL defers output target by 2 years
Coal India (CIL) has pushed back its ambitious 1 billion tonnes (bt) of production target by at least two years, owing to the existing ground realities. The government had earlier set the target of 1 bt coal output by 2019-20. CIL has been investing towards establishing railway connectivity with its mines and procuring rakes in order to evacuate more coal. However, a sharp rise in renewable energy sources is compelling the world's largest miner to review its earlier production goals.
