Centre's guidelines for Operation Greens
The Union Food Processing Ministry has issued guidelines for Operation Greens, an initiative announced in the Union Budget with an outlay of Rs 500 crore. The programme aims to stabilise supply of tomato, onion and potato (TOP) crops and ensure their availability through the year without price volatility. As a part of the short-term stabilisation measures, the Food Processing Ministry will provide 50 per cent subsidy for transport of these crops from production to storage and for hiring appropriate storage facilities. The ministry will also give financial assistance for longterm, integrated, value-chain, development projects related to the TOP crops.
