In an engaging conversation with Sharmila Chand, Ms Nair talks about her likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses.

How do you define yourself?

Ambitious, meticulous, determined and focused. Quite intelligent too, I think. Actually, I hate to talk about myself, so I feel quite awkward saying all this.

What is your philosophy of life?

Whatever you do, give it your best.

What is your passion in life?

To shine and excel in my profession and in everything else I set out to do and to be recognised for my own worth

What is your management mantra?

Be firm, and at the same time, be understanding and compassionate. Stand up for your employees before others, and take the blame for their faults, but berate them in private, and ensure that they never commit the same mistakes.

What would you like to say about your work?

My legal career really excites me. It pushes me to use all my abilities to the maximum extent and gives me a great sense of achievement.

A business leader you admire the most...

Anand Mahindra and Indra Nooyi

Your strength...

My positive attitude and the belief that everything will work out ultimately

Your weakness...

I cannot suffer fools and expect perfection from everybody around me.

Your kind of music...

Old Hindi film songs

Your favourite holiday destination...

Anywhere in the God's Own Country - Kerala

Golf or Bridge or…

Lying in bed and reading a book

Formal suit or casual attire...

Depends on the occasion, but sari is what I am most comfortable in, and I feel that it is the best attire for Indian figures

You are a tough, serious boss or…

Well, I try to be, but I do not think that I succeed because my employees say that I scold them with a smile.

What do you enjoy the most in life, generally?

Being with my family and going on holidays with them

How do you de-stress?

By doing the Odissi dance, my hobby

Your mantra for success...

Be ambitious but realistic

Your dream...

To be recognised and remembered as someone who fought the battles life threw at her and did not give up

Ten years from now, where do we see you?

Hopefully, retired and enjoying my time with my grandchildren
