Mohana Nair, President, IMC Ladies' Wing
Mohana Nair, the president of the Ladies' Wing of IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a leading Mumbai-based trade body, is a corporate lawyer, specialising in banking, insurance, company, intellectual property and information technology laws. Apart from dealing with the sophisticated of the corporate sector, Ms Nair also takes up social causes. A postgraduate in Physics (Electronics) from Mumbai University and, of course, law graduate, Ms Nair sits on the boards of several companies. She additionally advises non-profit organisations, like Awaaz Foundation, GyanPrakash Foundation and Isha Foundation and has filed public interest litigations for several causes, including protection of trees in Mumbai and saving a wild life corridor in Maharashtra, among others. In an engaging conversation with Sharmila Chand, Ms Nair talks about her likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses.
How do you define yourself?
Ambitious, meticulous, determined and focused. Quite intelligent too, I think. Actually, I hate to talk about myself, so I feel quite awkward saying all this.
What is your philosophy of life?
Whatever you do, give it your best.
What is your passion in life?
To shine and excel in my profession and in everything else I set out to do and to be recognised for my own worth
What is your management mantra?
Be firm, and at the same time, be understanding and compassionate. Stand up for your employees before others, and take the blame for their faults, but berate them in private, and ensure that they never commit the same mistakes.
What would you like to say about your work?
My legal career really excites me. It pushes me to use all my abilities to the maximum extent and gives me a great sense of achievement.
