India in focus at Abu Dhabi book fair
Celebrated Indian authors participated in the 29th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) held from April 25 to 30. With India as its guest of honour this year, the ADIBF showcased the richness of the country’s culture, as well as its diversity, throughout the fair’s run. The India Pavilion was opened by Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan April 25 in the presence of UAE’s Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development Noura Bin Mohd Al Kaabi and Indian Ambassador Navdeep Suri. The India Pavilion focused on the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. It displayed the 100volume series titled ‘Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi’, apart from various publications on the freedom struggle. Among the Indian authors who graced the ADIBF stage was Ambassador Suri, who launched his book “Inked in Blood and Spirit of Freedom”.
The book is the English translation of his grandfather’s famous poem “Khooni Vaisakhi”, based on how he witnessed the Jallianwala Bagh massacre on April 13, 1919. Smita Pant, from the Indian Embassy, said: “We are thrilled to be the guest of honour at this year’s Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.
This partnership is reflective of the historical ties we enjoy with the Arab world. A roster of hand-picked Indian performers also showcased classical music, traditional dances and Punjabi folk songs.
