Telangana Furniture Park in Hyderabad

The Telangana government plans to set up a dedicated industrial park for furniture manufactur­e in Hyderabad. The Furniture Park will come up over 100 acres of land on the city’s outskirts and house various furniture manufactur­ers.

State Principal Secretary, Industry and Commerce, Jayesh Ranjan said this at the first anniversar­y celebratio­n of leading Swedish home furnishing retailer IKEA’s first India store. Urging IKEA to bring global suppliers to set up operations at the proposed park, he urged IKEA officials to explain to suppliers the benefits, incentives and support the Telangana government will

offer. Ranjan said a separate enclave in the park may be created for IKEA suppliers, adding that the move would help IKEA manage logistics costs as it look to open stores in various parts of the country.

He also wanted IKEA to play an active role in getting a proposed academy in retail skills to Hyderabad and urged IKEA to set up their first small format store in Warangal, just as it choose Hyderabad for the country’s first large format store.

He also sought the Swedish firm’s support to promote Telangana’s handicraft­s and textiles. Sweden’s Ambassador to India Klas Molin, IKEA India CEO Peter Betzel and others were present on the occasion.
