Global MBA programmes are designed to teach students management in both domestic and international spaces. They offer important insights into international business cultures which help graduates consolidate a wider picture of management in their minds.

“At an overall general level a global degree benefits MBA students by providing them with substantive overseas exposure. Secondly it provides them with a Diploma ( PGDM— Post graduate Diploma in Mangement) which is

given by the two partner institutions. Graduates definitely stand to gain from this as employers usually consider the diploma to have been awarded by the international partner.” says Prof Ashok Panjwani, dean of graduate programmes, Management Development Institute of India, Delhi.

For example as part of the 3C MGM Program at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, the course delivery happens across three continents ( Asia, Europe and America). The universities that students get to study at include Antwerp Management School ( Belgium), Fordham University, New York ( USA) and XIMB ( India). This gives students exposure to multiple work cultures and colleagues of global ethnicity .

“You meet people from different positions, cultures and companies. The exposure is way more than what you get from attending class everyday in the same campus,” says Shrishti Prabhu, 29, who graduated in Global Business Leadership from TASMAC University which awards a joint degree with the University of Wales, UK.

Globalised business environments demand knowledge and exposure to international business practices. With many Indian firms looking to expand into foreign markets and international firms investing in India, the need for international managers is only growing by the day.

“Yes there is a market for international managers. Some students manage to get a longish ( 6- 9 month) internship and a handful get jobs in Europe itself. But India provides better job prospects given that the impact of the recession abroad is still a looming presence,” says Panjwani.
