AN EARLY START

Keeping in mind that the world will only grow more interconnected, many parents are choosing to provide their children international exposure

- TODD ROBINSON, VP EF INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY

The fact remains that the world is going to be more global than it is now. Globalization has transformed the way we live, learn and work. The pace of growth of technology, particularly the ease and speed of communication, has continued to accelerate.

Indians have embraced this paradigm shift and are more prepared for a world that is global. International Education is all about being progressive and prepared for a world 5- 10 years from now, mitigating the global challenges and opportunities- be it business or jobs. International education has brought Indian students at par with their global counter parts and equipped students with the right skills they would need to survive in a global scenario.

More Indians are seeking international exposure as early as during their high school education. Without doubt, high school is increasingly becoming a place where students prepare for college, at earlier and earlier ages, rather than simply learning to socialize and advance their structured educations. Where applying to college was once something done primarily in junior and senior years, students around the world now begin preparing for the college admissions process as early as their freshman years. The grades they achieve, sports they play, art they create, and initiatives in which they are involved matter more and more toward college acceptance.

For students who enroll from overseas, they learn early on what it means to adapt to a new culture and language, to living away from home and being responsible for their studies. This without a doubt prompts them toward maturity and prepares them for a life of studying, working and living abroad.

By their very nature, international education promotes cross- cultural exchange and understanding. Students become friends with and learn from people they would never have met otherwise. They also become exposed to cultures once utterly foreign to them. This is incredibly beneficial, for a number of reasons. Most importantly, it makes them more empathetic and tolerant toward those who come from different backgrounds, which are significant attributes in a global society. In the future, when students choose a career path, they will be better equipped than other candidates to work in global markets and will bring more innovative, solutions to the work place. When applying to a prestigious university, these students are more likely to have versatile language skills and will be uniquely prepared for university life. They will have already adjusted to the amount of free time and responsibility they will have at university, and will have already overcome the common pitfalls. And they will have done so in a nurturing, supportive environment that assisted them in learning new coping mechanisms and study strategies.

International exposure at a very early age opens the flood gates of unlimited resources and opportunities in the future. The network they students develop during their early years will prove to be tremendously resourceful. They will help them achieve and nurture all that they are capable of. With such knowledge resources at hand, students can take to pursuing any interest they desire.
