This expansive botanical garden took the spot of the popular city restaurant, Woodlands drive- in in 2010. It has since then become a highly preferred destination for families, joggers and youngsters who throng this picturesque spot in the early mornings and evenings. Located on the busy Cathedral Road, this garden spans an area of 20 acres and houses over 500 species of plants, many of them aromatic, medicinal herbs imported from China and Thailand.
An ideal picnic spot, there are few smaller gardens inside including a tree court, mural walk, an artificial duck pond, butterfly garden, fern garden and even a small cascade. While there, look out for spiral- shaped and multibranched miniature trees grown in containers, the vertical garden with its in- built irrigation system and the breathtaking blooms of Krishnagandha.
The botanical garden, which was set up by the Horticulture Department of the DMK Government, also has an open air venue where cultural events and functions are organised. The garden is closed on Tuesdays but is open from 10 am to 8 pm through the rest of the week. At Near Gemini Flyover, Cathedral Road, Teynampet Tel 28110077
