WEALTH IN WELLNESS
Papaya face masks and herbal sweeteners now share space with antibiotics, as Gujarat’s major pharmaceutical companies have included herbal and wellness products to their repertoire
It’s not just about painkillers and antibiotics for pharmaceutical companies any longer. Major drug makers are now expanding their menus to include overall wellness, skin and hair care with specialised offerings such herbal products and skin care lotions aimed at men. With people increasingly focusing on holistic wellness—mind, skin and hair— pharma majors like Zydus are jumping on to the bandwagon to introduce skin, hair personal care products, vitamin supplements and energy foods. Zydus Wellness, the consumer products arm of Cadila Healthcare, owns the popular personal care brand Everyuth, a regular on supermarket and beauty store shelves. Everyuth Naturals, a skincare brand from a healthcare company has products that “are fortified with the power of natural ingredients”. Some of their popular products are the lemon soap-free face wash, a cucumber face mask, walnut scrub and a male-specific line called EverYuth Menz that has sun blocks, moisturisers and reportedly the “first face scrub for males in India”.
Similarly, Ahmedabad-based Will Impex, a global pharmaceutical manufacturing company, specialises in derma products, energy drinks and syrups. On their list are ointment creams, dental products, Ayurvedic products, skin care soaps and energy drinks.
With people going back to their roots and nature, Cadila has launched a herbal extract-based low-calorie sweetener under the Sugar Free brand that’s made of an American herb called Stevia. The pharma company’s herbal division, Chezgreen, offers a wide range of herbal wellness products such as a turmeric-based skin cream, Folistrong that arrests premature greying and hair loss and a neem-based mosquito repellent.
