Pa­paya face masks and her­bal sweet­en­ers now share space with an­tibi­otics, as Gu­jarat’s ma­jor phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal com­pa­nies have in­cluded her­bal and well­ness prod­ucts to their reper­toire

It’s not just about painkiller­s and an­tibi­otics for phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal com­pa­nies any longer. Ma­jor drug mak­ers are now ex­pand­ing their menus to in­clude over­all well­ness, skin and hair care with spe­cialised of­fer­ings such her­bal prod­ucts and skin care lo­tions aimed at men. With peo­ple in­creas­ingly fo­cus­ing on holis­tic well­ness—mind, skin and hair— pharma ma­jors like Zy­dus are jump­ing on to the band­wagon to in­tro­duce skin, hair per­sonal care prod­ucts, vi­ta­min sup­ple­ments and en­ergy foods. Zy­dus Well­ness, the consumer prod­ucts arm of Cadila Health­care, owns the pop­u­lar per­sonal care brand Everyuth, a reg­u­lar on su­per­mar­ket and beauty store shelves. Everyuth Nat­u­rals, a sk­in­care brand from a health­care com­pany has prod­ucts that “are fortified with the power of nat­u­ral ingredient­s”. Some of their pop­u­lar prod­ucts are the lemon soap-free face wash, a cu­cum­ber face mask, wal­nut scrub and a male-spe­cific line called EverYuth Menz that has sun blocks, mois­turis­ers and re­port­edly the “first face scrub for males in In­dia”.

Sim­i­larly, Ahmedabad-based Will Im­pex, a global phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal man­u­fac­tur­ing com­pany, spe­cialises in derma prod­ucts, en­ergy drinks and syrups. On their list are oint­ment creams, den­tal prod­ucts, Ayurvedic prod­ucts, skin care soaps and en­ergy drinks.

NA­TURES CURE

With peo­ple go­ing back to their roots and na­ture, Cadila has launched a her­bal ex­tract-based low-calo­rie sweet­ener un­der the Su­gar Free brand that’s made of an Amer­i­can herb called Ste­via. The pharma com­pany’s her­bal di­vi­sion, Chez­green, of­fers a wide range of her­bal well­ness prod­ucts such as a turmeric-based skin cream, Folistrong that ar­rests pre­ma­ture grey­ing and hair loss and a neem-based mosquito re­pel­lent.
