BACHELOR OF AYURVEDIC MEDICINE AND SURGERY
Ayurveda is a branch of medicine which originated and has been practised in India for over 5,000 years. Bachelor of ayurvedic medicine and surgery (BAMS) is an integrated course, which includes the teachings of ayurvedic as well as modern machines. Graduates are not permitted to practise allopathy and may deal exclusively in the science of ayurveda. The course is for five years, with four years of classroom study and a year of internships.
CAREER PROSPECTS A bachelor’s degree in ayurveda enables students to register in ayurveda boards controlled by both central and state governments. Graduates may also work in companies such as Dabur and Lupin, government hospitals, pharmaceutical labs or colleges as teaching faculty or researchers. Salaries range from `15,000 to `25,000.
