BACH­E­LOR OF AYURVEDIC MEDICINE AND SURGERY

Ayurveda is a branch of medicine which orig­i­nated and has been prac­tised in In­dia for over 5,000 years. Bach­e­lor of ayurvedic medicine and surgery (BAMS) is an in­te­grated course, which in­cludes the teach­ings of ayurvedic as well as mod­ern ma­chines. Grad­u­ates are not per­mit­ted to prac­tise al­lopa­thy and may deal ex­clu­sively in the science of ayurveda. The course is for five years, with four years of class­room study and a year of in­tern­ships.

CA­REER PROSPECTS A bach­e­lor’s de­gree in ayurveda en­ables stu­dents to reg­is­ter in ayurveda boards con­trolled by both cen­tral and state gov­ern­ments. Grad­u­ates may also work in com­pa­nies such as Dabur and Lupin, gov­ern­ment hos­pi­tals, phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal labs or col­leges as teach­ing fac­ulty or re­searchers.
