Du­ties of a nurse in­clude dis­pens­ing medicine, keep­ing records of a pa­tient’s med­i­cal progress and op­er­at­ing med­i­cal equip­ment, as well as per­form­ing ad­min­is­tra­tive and rou­tine func­tions. The bach­e­lor of science in nurs­ing is a four-year course, which en­tails train­ing in the­ory and prac­ti­cal as­pects of nurs­ing along with ba­sic knowl­edge about first aid and mid­wifery.

CA­REER PROSPECTS A nurse may be em­ployed in gov­ern­ment or pri­vate hos­pi­tals or health de­part­ments. One may also seek em­ploy­ment in the In­dian Red Cross So­ci­ety, the In­dian Nurs­ing Coun­cil, or State Nurs­ing Coun­cils. Salaries vary be­tween `7,000 and `72,000 per month.
