The Jaipur police is investigating Union home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and wife Mira on charges of fraud and altering land documents. The case relates to when Mehrishi was Rajasthan chief secretary—he allegedly changed land use patterns to save on capital gains tax worth Rs 1.25 crore. Mehrishi calls it a tax issue with the I-T department, says land conversion application was cancelled for non-payment of dues and points to a clean chit in another case of evading stamp duty.
