Kush Ahuja, Head of Business Relations, ACCA, on career prospects for chartered accountants
The final countdown to the IIT-JEE exam has begun. As the clock ticks, students need to make the most of every minute and ensure that they are leaving no stone unturned to crack the competitive entrance exam. At present, 40 per cent weightage is given to Class 12 marks and 60 per cent to JEE Main scores. While it isn’t easy to memorise and grasp all the lessons in a relatively short span of time, cracking the competitive exam with a well-planned strategy is not an unattainable feat. Students are required to devise a stronger action plan to crack the exam and chart out an efficient timetable and carefully planned strategies that can help them sail through the exams smoothly. As the Union Ministry of Human Resources has declared that Class 12 marks will not be a parameter that affects JEE rankings, students cannot fall back on their marks for class 12 and need to go that extra mile to make it to the next level of exam (JEE Advanced). A list of strategies that can be followed while preparing for the competitive exam
UTILISE YOUR TIME WELL
While you may have spent months and days covering your syllabus and solving papers, now is the time to get back to your notes and revise. Initially, it may seem impossible to cover such a vast portion; you can take up important topics or the ones that you’re weak at. Go through them thoroughly and ensure that you don’t miss out on any relevant topic.
PRACTICE MOCK TESTS
Only learning from NCERT books may not be sufficient to crack the entrance exam. Practice as many multiple choice questions as you can. Solve JEE Main sample papers to get a grasp on the pattern of questions. Solving mock papers will improve your confidence level and help you to concentrate better on weaker segments.
IMPROVE YOUR CONCENTRATION
There is no room for mistakes due to negative marking. Therefore, it is essential to build your concentration levels. On a daily basis, indulge in activities such as meditation and yoga to boost your concentration levels. These activities will help to manage your stress levels as well.
DON’T LEARN NEW CONCEPTS
Although every topic and chapter is crucial to crack the exam, do not waste time in learning new topics or engaging in complex lessons in such a short span of time. Instead, devote time to strengthening already learnt topics and to attempting mock papers. Identify your mistakes and learn to correct them through practice.
TAKE REGULAR BREAKS AND ENSURE YOU GET GOOD REST
While your tim-table has, long hours devoted to studies, it is equally important to relax your mind. Indulge in sports or watch a good movie to refresh your mind and make sure you’re not sleep deprived.
ASSESS YOUR SYLLABUS
Take a thorough look at the complete exam syllabus and note down topic wise weightage. Mark topics that you have a high degree of conceptual understanding about. Revise these topics during your preparation. In modern physics, first prepare topics such as atoms, nuclei, and radiations, which are comparatively easier to learn and revise. In coordinate geometry, pay attention to the diagram. Learn to draw approximate diagrams based on the parameters given in the question. This will help you score bonus marks. Following the above techniques can open up better opportunities to score more than 20-25 additional marks in the IIT Main examination.
KEEP A POSITIVE FRAME OF MIND
Trust yourself! Having a low confidence causes hesitation and anxiety. On the other hand, it also decreases your focus and retention of topics. It is important to stay optimistic during this period. Keep reiterating positive phrases such as “Yes, I can”.
