A new sweet stop to look out for.
You know the city’s waffle craze has hit the next level when you see people walking down the busy Harrington Road with syrup-laden ones on a stick. Westfield, which first opened with a kiosk at the busy Besant Nagar beach, soon realised it was time for another outlet, this time with some open seating space.
Besides regular waffles and multiple toppings and sauces, there is a lot more to pick from. There are waffles on sticks called Lolly Waffles, a popular choice we hear. You can also try Poffertjes (the staff helps you pronounce it) that are mini Danish pancakes topped with fresh fruit and sauce. We tried a white chocolate topping and couldn’t help but reach out for more of these light-as-air treats. It is difficult to go wrong with these fluffy perfectly rounded and mildly sweet delights.
The batter is the secret behind the fluffiness and we are informed that everything at Westfield is eggless, to cater to every kind of diner. We could go on about the Poffertjes, but are stopped short by the latest item on their menu, a waffle sandwich. They look like regular waffles until you bite into them. We tried a honey and strawberry variant that had fresh strawberries stuffed into them. The tart fruity flavour with a crunchy outside and a generous topping of honey was just the kind of dessert to brighten our summer evening.
Westfield is a quick snack or dessert stop that gets most of its basics right with rock bottom prices. We wish they had better seating to cope with the rising temperatures, but we’ll still be found stuffing our share in a corner.
