Music On Mind

This September, all roads lead to the biggest beach party in town, GO:Madras.

In its ninth edition,

GO:Madras, the most sought-after celebration of electronic music in the city, may have changed venues but it promises to even bigger and better this year.

Sizzling Avatar

It was in 2009 that partners and friends Shiv Gupta, Tuhin Mehta and Hema Sethuraman saw the once seemingly widespread underground beach parties disappear from the shores of the city. “We realised it was time to bring them back in a more organised form through a festival,” says Gupta. “We don’t have much variety in the pub culture in the city. With the beach parties dying out, somebody had to fill the gap,” he adds. GO: Madras, south India's finest music extravaganza began its journey as a single-day event and started off as an experimental platform for international electronic artists and local talent in equal measure. The current line-up is impressive, boasting of international acts such as Matt Minimal, KLIMENT, Once Upon A Time and well-known Indian names such as Ash Roy, BLOT! and Calm Chor. The two-day festival will be held at a compact venue making shuttling from the music event to the after-party easier. “The production will be a few notches better, something we strive to achieve with every edition,” says Gupta.

Fun Additions

Besides this, GO: Madras IX will have a bunch of new elements like food stalls and a dedicated lounge area, and will focus on creating an afternoon beach vibe where you could kick back and relax with a beer while listening to some of the best names in the industry. “Over two days of the festival, we get a footfall of 3,000 to 4,000 on an average and it goes up by 10 to 15 percent every year,” says Gupta.

So, it’s time to get beach ready and book your tickets before they are all gone.
