With Vicky Donor, Madras Cafe, Piku and Pink to his credit, Shoojit Sircar knows what people want. “Cinema is like a psychological war and hearttoheart conversation with the audience,” he says. “You can’t cheat them. They can make out if you are wrong.” Among his key collaborators is writer Juhi Chaturvedi, whom he knows from his days as an ad filmmaker when he directed commercials for Chaturvedi’s erstwhile employers Ogilvy & Mather. After Vicky Donor (2012) and Piku (2015), Chaturvedi will now team up with Sircar for October, which releases on Apr. 13. Starring Varun Dhawan and newcomer Banta Sandhu, the film is a “slice of real life love story” and is set in Delhi and Himachal Pradesh.

Talking about the successful partnership, Sircar says, “Our scriptwriting process involves a lot of discussion not just about the film but also about cooking, childhood and dealing with kids.”
