An­swer­ing a ques­tion in the state as­sem­bly, the Ch­hat­tis­garh gov­ern­ment con­ceded that more than a dozen jour­nal­ists have been jailed in 2017. On De­cem­ber 28, jour­nal­ist Vinod Verma was granted bail in Raipur, the state cap­i­tal, by a spe­cial court of the Cen­tral Bureau of In­ves­ti­ga­tion. Ac­cused of black­mail­ing a min­is­ter in the Ch­hat­tis­garh gov­ern­ment, Verma was ar­rested two months ago. He was part of a group of edi­tors that vis­ited the state in March last year to re­port on the duress jour­nal­ists face.
