IS GENDER EQUALITY AN OPPORTUNITY OR A THREAT ?

-

More needs to be done

A question on equality itself fuels the notion that women are less than their counterparts. A woman’s ability to give life makes her powerful and one only needs the eye to witness her strength. Once women become aware of their own competence, they need no assistance at all. Anurag Malik, Delhi

It’s a threat

Gender equality is a threat to the mindset of the society which unquestionably assumes male dominance and has a fear of losing to the ‘weaker’ gender. Men, till this time, are hesitant to share power with women. Deepak Ahlawat, Mumbai

It’s a much awaited move

It is not only about giving equal opportunities to both men and women but it is much more about inculcating the idea of respect across genders. Yes, it is an opportunity for women to display their potential and succeed in what they do, given the similar set of situations as men. Srishti Singh, Bengaluru

Both genders need to have equal representation

Beside opportunities, equality debars stereotyping of gendered roles. In the contemporary society, the role of a ‘house-husband’ is looked down upon due to persistent inequality. While it is acceptable for a woman to want to stay at home, it is not for a man. Nandita Menon, Delhi

It’s a fundamental right

Gender equality is nothing less than an opportunity which provides one due respect and the right to choose. With different genders working together in the civil and political sphere, various perspectives come to the forefront. Rangoli Roy, Kolkata
