ON RECORD: Kept a tab on mid­dle-class lo­cal­i­ties; stalked mi­nor girls; in­tro­duced him­self as a fam­ily friend with ur­gent mes­sages for their fa­thers. He would take them to a se­cluded spot, mo­lest and rape at knife point and leave them bleed­ing


Typ­i­cally, a loner, a mas­ter ma­nip­u­la­tor. who does not trust any­one. In­spec­tor Di­nesh Kshir­sagar, who in­ter­ro­gated An­sari af­ter his ar­rest in 2015, says he never trav­elled by pub­lic trans­port, never used mo­bile phones and never shared per­sonal in­for­ma­tion even with fam­ily and friends

VIC­TIM: On April 21, 2015, a five-year-old vic­tim iden­ti­fied him from a line-up of po­lice pho­to­graphs as the ‘un­cle’ she had seen in a gar­ment shop she used to go to with her mother. He had picked her up when she went to a gro­cery shop alone. CCTV footage showed a man first talk­ing to the child and then car­ry­ing her away in his arms. She was found bleed­ing by the road­side and needed two surg­eries.
