Si­enna started as a stu­dio cum work­shop in Shan­tinike­tan, Kolkata run by Sulagna Ghosh’s mother, ar­chi­tect Shanta Ghosh and sculp­tor Prab­has Sen. When Sulagna came on board she took the de­signs to the city. Si­enna, the store opened in 2008.

USP Hand­made and hand thrown pot­tery with non toxic glazes is their call­ing card. “Our prod­ucts of­ten fea­ture plant or bird mo­tifs. We like the nat­u­ral rus­tic vibe,” she says. They use a com­bi­na­tion of china clay and ter­ra­cotta or red clay in dif­fer­ent pro­por­tions on the pot­ter’s wheel, pinch­ing or mould­ing by hand, or on a press ma­chine.

BUY THE WAY They re­tail plates, bowls, mugs, coast­ers, fon­due pots, trays, ter­ra­cotta urns, tiles and bath ware (soap dishes and basins). Si­enna can also cre­ate cus­tomised mu­rals and name­plates.
