IS SCIENCE STILL A BOYS’ CLUB ?

-

It’s only a perception

It has always been thought that women are more inclined towards arts and humanities, the so-called less technical subjects. But that’s not the case. Times have changed and things are very different now than they used to be. Women today are not only studying science at the undergraduate and postgraduate level but are also taking it up as a career option and are training to be physicists, scientists and researchers. So, it is a field slowly and steadily being taken over by the women. Aakash Kumar, Lucknow

The old school thought needs to be done away with

If we look at 2018, women are celebrating science even more. For example, Miranda House, Delhi, the all-women’s college has set up a highend lab—D S Kothari Centre for Research to enhance and enrich science education where a large number of young women are participating and doing even better than their male students in other institutes and colleges. Shifting mindsets

I will not delve into facts and figures as to how many women dominate the scientific world today. I would rather like to reflect on the changing mindset of the millennials. Women are breaking all barriers and making inroads into less travelled and explored areas. Right from venturing into the space to coming up with scientific researches and working behind the wheels in the manufacturing sector, women have mastered science on all frontiers. Nothing can stop them. Nawa Fatima, Bengaluru
