Hope Cafe, part of the life skills centre run by Hope Kolkata Foundation turns ten this year. The 1999 born NGO which runs protection homes, a hospital and schools for children and the homeless in Kolkata, launched the life skills centre in 2008. It started off as a basic eatery serving thalis and Indian meals. Their menu expanded as new trainees came in and volunteers took turns teaching them new dishes. “One of the Irish volunteers taught them chocolate cake. I taught them the carrot cake,” smiles Renu Singh, manager, Life Skills Centre. Quiches, cakes, brownies, Irish stew and even biriyani can be made on request. Drop in for inexpensive wholesome food that gives you more bang for your buck than any generic cafe in the city.
