Truly Special

India Today - - COVER STORY -

Cafe ICanFlyy made waves when it opened last year as the only cafe in the city to be run by youngsters with special needs. But it is not just the novelty value that has ensured its enduring popularity. “People visiting Kolkata are including Cafe ICanFlyy in their itineraries now,” smiles Minu Budhia. Unlike Hope Cafe, this one is not about making the trainees employable but giving them a vocation. “This can go miles in improving their self worth. One member of the cafe crew has found such purpose in her work here that she refused to go on a holiday with her parents,” says Budhia, who is also a psychotherapist along with being the founder-director of the ICanFlyy vocational and skill building institute.
