Chinese Platter

- By Amrita Dhaliwal

TUCKED AWAY AMIDST scores of shops at the Patel market in Sector 15, is this haven of pocketfriendly Chinese and Tibetan food. A well-kept secret in the city’s student community, it has become the go-to place for ‘Punju-Chinese’ or authentic Schezwan fare.

Narrow pathways leading to the rear of the market, open up to this space wafting with aromas from oversized woks and momo-steamers. There are eight independent kitchens running simultaneously all-day without a break.

Evenings and weekends are super busy here with discerning foodies queuing up for their fill of Chinese food. However, a bulk of orders are now being made online. Orders mostly come in from some loyal patrons in sectors nearby, as well as from Panjab University Campus, Punjab Engineering College, the PGIMER and the line of graduate colleges in Sector 10 and 11. With students ruling the roost here, the options are vast and pocket friendly. On offer are over 30 varieties of noodles, a whole range of piping hot soups, rolls, rice and small snacking options.

Generous portions and swift service adds to the charm of the place. While we loved almost everything, the momos in gravy, chicken fried rice, mushroom chilli and the chicken thupka were delicious. The ambience of the place—noisy clanging woks and sometimes-greasy tables – can be daunting. But then, you could take it as a walk down memory lane to your college days.
